Adaptive Computation Series
Computer Immunology 4:00 p.m., April 30, 2004 at OCATE Natural immune systems are sophisticated information processors. They learn to recognize relevant patterns, remember patterns that have been seen previously, use combinatorics to construct pattern detectors efficiently, and engage diversity to promote robustness. Individual cells and molecules comprising the immune system are distributed throughout our bodies, encoding and controlling the system in aprallel with no central control mechanism. This discussion describes recent progress on several related projects which are incorporating principles and mechanisms from immunology into computational applications, focusing especially on computer security. This lecture is organized by Todd Leen (503-547-1660), Department of Biomedical Engineering, Oregon Graduate Institute. Professional development hours can be earned by attending OCATE lectures. Please contact a staff member at the lecture if you would like a letter confirming receipt of a pdh. >> return to lectures |
About Stephanie Forrest:
Current: Professor of Computer Science at the University of New Mexico, Research Professor, Santa Fe Institute Ph.D: Computer and Communication Sciences, University of Michigan Stephanie Forrest has worked for Teknowledge, inc. and was a Director's Fellow at the Center for Nonlinear Studies, Los Alamos National Laboratory. Currently, she is a member of the Santa Fe Institute Science Board and served as SFI's Interim Vice President 1999-2000.
